Jennifer Saunders` secret cancer battle
Jennifer Saunders has fought and won a secret battle with breast cancer.
The 52-year-old comedienne was diagnosed with the potentially-fatal disease after finding a lump in her breast nine months ago. She underwent surgery to have the tumour removed before embarking on gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy courses and was given the "all-clear" last month.
Jennifer was devastated when she found out she had cancer, but was "determined" to beat it and is thrilled that she appears to have done so.
"As anyone can imagine it was a terrible shock for both Jennifer and her family to find out she had got cancer," a friend told British newspaper The Daily Mirror.
"She has been extremely sick over the course of the treatment particularly during the chemotherapy.
"But Jennifer is nothing but a fighter and she was determined to beat it and make a full recovery."
Jennifer`s husband Adrian Edmondson and their three daughters, Ella, 24, Beatrice, 22, and 19-year-old Freya, have supported her throughout her treatment. They are thrilled she has recovered so well, and are believed to have gone on holiday to celebrate.
"Jennifer and Adrian are so relieved she has been given the all-clear," the source continued. "It is the best news they could have ever wished for.
"Both Ade and Jennifer have always been there for each other. They support each other no matter what and although this has been a huge challenge together they have finally got through it.
"There have been many tough times in the past nine months but after being told she was all clear everyone has been on high. Everyone is just grateful for the treatment she has received and simply cannot thank the doctors enough."
Jennifer lost her hair as a result of her chemotherapy, but wore wigs and headscarves in public to keep her condition secret.
